Château des Landes is a family-owned estate situated in the Lussac-Saint-Émilion appellation of Bordeaux, France. Established in 1952 by Jean Lassagne, the vineyard has been meticulously managed by the Lassagne family for generations, focusing on producing high-quality Merlot-based wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region.
2015 Cuvée Prestige
The 2015 vintage of Château des Landes Cuvée Prestige is crafted exclusively from old-vine Merlot, showcasing the depth and character of the varietal. This wine exhibits a deep, dark ruby hue, indicating its concentration. On the nose, it presents ripe red fruit aromas, complemented by floral notes, wood, spice, and a touch of vanilla.
The palate is rich and dense, offering flavours of blackberry, dark plum, anise, and sweet dried tobacco leaf. The wine is juicy, smooth, and sensuous, with well-integrated tannins providing structure and balance. A toasty character from oak aging adds complexity, leading to a powerful and complex finish. This full-bodied wine has an alcohol content of 13.5% and is classified as extra dry. It is approachable now but has the potential to cellar and develop further complexity through 2028.
Food Pairing
This wine pairs beautifully with hearty dishes such as tourtière, roast beef, and turkey. These pairings enhance the wine's rich fruit flavours and toasty oak nuances, creating a harmonious dining experience.
Accolades
- Wine Enthusiast: 91 Points. "Ripe and structured, this wood-aged wine is still developing. It has a dark structure, dense blackberry fruit, and powerful concentration. A peppery touch of alcohol gives it a bitter finish, which should dissipate as it ages. Drink from 2022."
- Natalie MacLean: 90 Points. "A full-bodied 100% Old Vines Merlot sourced from the Lussac-Saint-Émilion appellation. Château des Landes Cuvée Prestige is toasty on the palate with blackberry, dark plum, anise, and sweet dried tobacco leaf flavours. Juicy, smooth, and sensuous on the palate. Nice now, but can easily cellar for eight years or more."
