Play Dead IPA is the multi-award-winning flagship from Port Moody’s Yellow Dog Brewing Co. As a pioneer of the "Brewers Row" scene in British Columbia, Yellow Dog crafted this beer to be an quintessential West Coast IPA. It is designed to showcase a big, aggressive hop profile while maintaining a level of balance and "crushability" that keeps it approachable. It has gained a massive following for its consistency and its ability to deliver classic Pacific Northwest flavors without being overly abrasive.
Beer Description
This West Coast IPA pours a clear, vibrant copper-gold with a resilient, frothy white head and excellent lacy retention on the glass.
Aroma: It features a bold and pungent nose that is classic to the style. Expect a heavy hit of resinous pine and dank herbs, followed closely by bright citrus notes of grapefruit zest and orange peel.
Palate: The flavor is assertive and hop-forward. It leads with a brief, subtle caramel malt sweetness that quickly gives way to intense flavors of pine and citrus. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied with a crisp carbonation, finishing with a firm, lingering bitterness that is clean and dry.
Profile: It has a robust ABV of 6.8% and a high bitterness of 65 IBU, staying true to its roots as a bold, "big" IPA.
Technical Notes: Brewed with a focus on classic Pacific Northwest hop varieties. The malt bill is carefully structured to provide enough backbone to support the high IBU count without becoming syrupy, ensuring the hop oils remain the focal point from the first scent to the final swallow.
