Powder Hound Blonde Ale is a cornerstone of the Grizzly Paw Brewing Company in Canmore, Alberta. Named after the enthusiasts who chase fresh "powder" in the nearby Canadian Rockies, this beer is designed as the ultimate post-mountain refresher. Since the brewery's start in 1996, Powder Hound has served as a reliable "bridge" beer offering more flavor and body than a standard domestic lager while remaining light enough to be incredibly approachable.
Beer Description
Powder Hound pours a clear, vibrant golden-yellow with a soft white head and steady carbonation.
Aroma: The nose is clean and inviting. It leads with a mild malty sweetness reminiscent of honey and freshly baked bread. Because it is an ale, you will find a very subtle fruitiness think ripe yellow apple balanced by a faint, earthy hop scent.
Palate: On the tongue, it is light-to-medium bodied with a smooth, "easy-going" mouthfeel. It leads with a delicate biscuit-like malt flavor and a touch of sweetness. The bitterness is kept very low, serving only to provide a clean finish that doesn't linger. It is intentionally simple and balanced.
Profile: It sits at a very manageable 4.5% ABV and a low bitterness of 15 IBU, making it an ideal "all-day" session ale.
Technical Notes: This beer is brewed with a blend of pale malts and a touch of crystal malt to give it that signature golden hue and bready backbone. It is fermented with a clean-fermenting ale yeast at slightly cooler temperatures to keep the profile crisp. A key ingredient is the Canmore mountain water sourced from the local watershed, which is naturally soft and helps produce a very smooth final product.
