Woodford Reserve Master's Collection Madeira Cask Finish represents the prestigious 20th release in Woodford Reserve's esteemed Master's Collection and stands as a milestone of innovation for Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall. For this highly limited release, McCall separately finished Woodford Reserve bourbon, rye, and wheat whiskeys in fortified Madeira wine casks sourced from the Portuguese islands. To ensure the rich, oxidative notes of the Madeira casks didn't overpower the spirit, this complex blend was masterfully balanced by adding a portion of unfinished Kentucky straight wheat whiskey, elevating the liquid's natural fruit-forward and floral characteristics. Bottled at 45.2% ABV (90.4 Proof), it pours a beautiful chestnut color. The nose is inviting and deeply aromatic, offering dark cherries, brown sugar, and candied oranges dusted with clove, nutmeg, and a hint of cedar wood. On the palate, robust waves of dried dark fruits like raisins and dried cranberries gracefully give way to rich oak, walnut, and warming baking spices, culminating in a long, elegant finish defined by lingering candied walnut and gentle spice.
