Originating from France in the Burgundy region, specifically within the Volnay AOC appellation in the Côte de Beaune, Domaine Vincent Latour Volnay 'Les Serpens' Cuvée Élégance 2022 represents a graceful, silken, and classic expression of Pinot Noir. Domaine Vincent Latour, based in Meursault, is a revered family estate that traces its winemaking origins back to 1792. The grapes for this cuvée are sourced from the Les Serpens lieu-dit in Volnay, where vines grow on steep, east-facing slopes composed of limestone-rich clay soils. Under winemaker Vincent Latour, the estate employs sustainable viticulture, hand harvesting, and a combination of ambient yeast fermentation, whole cluster inclusion, and slow aging in demi-muids and French oak barrels (approximately 20% to 25% new). The result is an aromatic, perfumed Volnay that captures the finesse, purity, and silky structural texture characteristic of the appellation.
Wine Description
The wine presents a clear, luminous translucent ruby red colour with delicate garnet reflections along the rim. An expressive, highly perfumed bouquet opens with noble aromas of red cherry, wild raspberry, pomegranate, and wild strawberry, interwoven with sophisticated notes of fresh violets, rose petals, subtle forest floor, white pepper, and light baking spice. On the palate, it is medium bodied, supple, and refined, delivering concentrated flavours of red fruit, orange zest, and chalky mineral earth, all supported by a bright, mouthwatering spine of natural acidity. Framed by silky, fine-grained tannins and a seamless, coat-the-mouth mid-palate texture, it concludes with a long, persistent finish marked by lingering red berries, floral hints, and a clean limestone grip. Composed of 100% Pinot Noir, this 2022 release offers an optimal drinking window of 2025–2037. Stylistically, it effortlessly balances Volnay elegance with pure red fruit aromatics, sunny vintage generosity, and delicate mineral drive.
