Verena Street Mississippi Grogg Decaf is a Swiss Water processed, flavored medium-roast ground coffee that delivers butterscotch, caramel and hazelnut notes without caffeine.
This 10oz bag of Verena Street Mississippi Grogg Decaf uses the Swiss Water decaffeination method to remove caffeine while preserving flavor and body. Roasted and packed in Dubuque, Iowa by an independent, family-owned roaster, this blend is flavored to evoke the Highlander Grogg profile—sweet, nutty and smooth—while being sourced from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms and certified kosher by the Orthodox Union.
What flavor experience should I expect from Mississippi Grogg Decaf?
You’ll notice a warmly sweet aroma and a rounded cup with distinct butterscotch and caramel sweetness balanced by roasted hazelnut character. The flavoring is integrated so the flavored profile comes through without overpowering the underlying coffee quality. This makes it ideal for sipping black or with a splash of milk.
- Primary tasting notes: butterscotch, caramel, hazelnut
- Roast level: medium roast for balanced acidity and body
- Texture: smooth finish with gentle sweetness
How is the decaffeination handled and why does it matter?
Decaffeination is done using the Swiss Water Process, a chemical-free method that relies on water and time to remove caffeine while retaining soluble flavor compounds. Because no solvents are used, the method is favored for maintaining natural coffee character. The result is decaf that tastes closer to its original profile than many other processes.
- Method: Swiss Water Process (solvent-free)
- Outcome: preserved flavor and mouthfeel
- Suitable for: those avoiding caffeine but wanting a full-bodied cup
Is this coffee ethically sourced and certified?
Yes—beans for this blend come from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms, supporting better farming practices, conservation and farmer livelihoods. The finished product is also Kosher certified by the Orthodox Union, offering assurance for consumers who observe kosher standards. Packaging and roasting are done locally in Dubuque by a family-owned business to support transparency and small-roaster craftsmanship.
- Sourcing: Rainforest Alliance Certified farms
- Certifications: Orthodox Union Kosher
- Roasting: freshly roasted and packaged in Dubuque, Iowa
How should I brew and store this flavored decaf ground coffee?
This medium-roast ground coffee works well in drip machines, pour-over cones and automatic brewers; adjust grind-to-water ratio for strength preference. To preserve aroma and flavor, store the unopened bag in a cool, dark place and transfer opened grounds to an airtight container. Use within a few weeks of opening for best freshness.
- Brewing: suited for drip, pour-over, and auto-brewers
- Ratio: start with 1:16 coffee-to-water and adjust to taste
