Introduction
Undone No. 3 'This is Not Whiskey' American Malt is a non alcoholic spirit alternative originating from Hamburg, Germany. The brand was founded to capture the spirit of a beverage in its essence rather than its alcohol, utilizing a process where original spirits are disassembled to extract the alcoholic content. This specific expression is crafted from a unique blend that combines the characteristics of American Bourbon and Irish Whisky.
Spirit Description
This non alcoholic malt presents a dark mahogany liquid typical of aged spirits. The nose is characterized by toasted grain and vanilla aromas, along with scents of wood barrel, honey corn flakes, orange peel, and apple. On the palate, it delivers a full bodied flavour featuring bold oak, green apple, and toffee, balanced by a touch of smoke and sweetness. The body is rich and smooth, leading to a smoky finish that replicates the complexity of a fine whiskey. This product contains less than 0.3% alcohol by volume.
Food Pairing
The smoky and oak forward profile of this spirit alternative makes it an ideal companion for rich and savoury dishes. It pairs exceptionally well with barbecued or smoked meats, grilled steak, and bacon wrapped appetizers, where the salt and fat harmonize with the woody barrel notes. For a lighter pairing, it complements grilled salmon with lemon herb butter or earthy roasted nuts like walnuts and herby almonds. It also serves as a sophisticated match for desserts, particularly warm apple crisp with vanilla ice cream or dark chocolate, which highlights the vanilla and toffee undertones of the spirit.
Distinctive Features
Undone No. 3 is distinguished by a patented vacuum dealcoholization system that preserves the natural aromas and flavours of single malt whiskey. It is a health conscious choice for a mindful lifestyle, containing only 2.7 to 3 calories per 30 ml serving and very low sugar content. The product is certified vegan and gluten free, and it uses natural ingredients such as maple syrup and caramel colour to achieve its authentic depth. Unlike many botanical blends, this spirit is designed to maintain the 'bite' and complexity required for professional cocktail building.
Serving Suggestions
While it can be enjoyed on the rocks for a simple serve, this spirit is primarily designed as a base for classic whiskey cocktails. For a sophisticated 'Manhattan UNDONE', it should be combined with Undone No. 9 vermouth over ice. It is also highly effective in an 'Old Fashioned' when muddled with orange and cherry, or mixed simply with ginger beer for a 'Whiskey Ginger'. For a refreshing long drink, mix it with cola or ginger ale and garnish with a lemon wedge. To ensure the best quality, store the bottle in a cool place and consume within several weeks of opening.
