Takaokaya Shizuoka Matcha Genmai-cha is a traditional Japanese blend of roasted brown rice and finely ground Shizuoka matcha, packaged as 64 convenient tea bags in a 124g (4.36oz) pouch.
This single-origin Japanese tea combines toasted genmai (brown rice) with a hint of powdered matcha from Shizuoka, creating a warm, toasty cup with bright green notes. Supplied in a resealable 124g pack with 64 tea bags, it’s made in Japan and designed for quick brewing at home, at the office, or on the go. The balanced flavor profile makes it a versatile choice for daily drinking and for pairing with light meals or snacks.
What does Shizuoka Matcha Genmai-cha taste like?
The blend delivers a comforting roasted aroma from brown rice alongside the fresh, grassy lift of matcha. It’s less vegetal than straight matcha and less smoky than some roasted teas, offering a mild, approachable cup suitable for many palates.
- Toasted, nutty notes from roasted brown rice
- Subtle vegetal brightness from Shizuoka matcha powder
- Smooth, low-bitterness finish
- Consistent cup when brewed with recommended water temperature
How should I brew these tea bags for best flavor?
For a balanced infusion, steep one tea bag in hot water just below boiling for a short time to preserve the matcha brightness and avoid bitterness. Adjust steeping time and tea-to-water ratio to personalize strength.
- Water temp: 80–85°C (176–185°F) recommended
- Steep 60–90 seconds for a light cup, 2–3 minutes for fuller flavor
- Use one tea bag per 250–300 ml (8–10 oz) cup
- Re-steep once if desired; expect a gentler second infusion
What makes this pack different from other genmai-cha products?
This offering features matcha powder derived from Shizuoka leaves, combined with 100% Japanese roasted brown rice for an authentic regional profile. The product comes in individually-sealed tea bags within a practical 124g pouch to preserve freshness.
- Matcha sourced from Shizuoka, known for its tea cultivation
- 100% Japanese brown rice inclusion for authentic character
- 64 tea bags per 124g pack for everyday convenience
- Made in Japan—clear origin labeling
How can I use Matcha Genmai-cha beyond a hot cup?
Its toasty-matcha profile adapts well to cold infusions, iced tea, and simple culinary uses where you want mild green tea notes. Use brewed tea as a base for chilled beverages or incorporate a few grams of brewed concentrate into recipes.
- Cold-brew: steep bags in refrigerator for 4–8 hours
- Iced tea: brew double-strength, serve over ice with a slice of citrus
- Culinary: add brewed concentrate to smoothies or dressings
- Light desserts: infuse cream or milk for panna cotta or custards
Who is this for? This Takaokaya Shizuoka Matcha Genmai-cha pack is suited to daily tea drinkers who want an easy, authentic Japanese option without the preparation fuss of whisked matcha. It’s ideal for people seeking a mild, toasty green tea with a hint of matcha—perfect for office kitchens, quick home brewing, or anyone exploring regional Japanese teas.
