Sugarlands Folds of Honor Sour Blue Raspberry Moonshine is a bright blue shine made for a good cause. Sugarlands Distilling Co. produces and bottles it in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, in the Smoky Mountains. The distillery gives 5% of proceeds from this moonshine to Folds of Honor.
Folds of Honor is a national nonprofit. It provides educational scholarships to the spouses and children of fallen and disabled military service members and first responders. So when you open a jar of this, part of your purchase helps a family pay for school.
The color comes first. It is a vivid, electric blue that looks great in a clear glass. The scent is ripe blue raspberry. Sugarlands describes the taste as refreshingly fruity, sweet and slightly tart. The sour side keeps the sugar in check, so it never feels syrupy.
At 20% ABV, or 40 proof, it is far gentler than classic white lightning. That makes it smooth and approachable, even for new moonshine drinkers. Sip it chilled or over ice. You can also stretch it with lemonade, lemon-lime soda or a big bowl of fruit punch.
Bring it to a cookout, a tailgate or a Fourth of July party. The blue color always gets people talking. Pair it with fruit desserts, candy or light snacks. You get a fun, fruity drink, and a share of the money goes to a cause that matters.
