This finely milled malted milk powder recreates the sweet, toasty malt flavor of old-school soda fountain malts. Formulated with simple, all-natural ingredients by CTLFoods in Wisconsin, the powder dissolves easily in liquids and blends into batters, making it a versatile pantry staple for home cooks, beverage pros, and bakers seeking an authentic malt note.
How do I use this malt powder to make old-fashioned milkshakes?
Combine the malt powder with ice cream and milk for a classic malted milkshake — it adds a warm, slightly toasted sweetness and creamy texture. Start with one to two tablespoons per two scoops of ice cream and adjust to taste for a more pronounced malt profile.
- Suggested ratio: 1–2 tbsp Soda Fountain malt per 2 scoops ice cream
- Blend with whole milk for richer texture or with milk alternatives for lighter shakes
- Use a high-speed blender for smooth integration
Can I bake with this malt powder and what does it do to recipes?
Yes — the powder brings a nutty, toasty depth and mild sweetness to cookies, cakes, pancakes, and breading mixes. It pairs well with chocolate, caramel, and coffee flavors, and can be used to subtly modify both dry mixes and wet batters.
- Replace a small portion of flour (up to 10%) for malted cookies or pancakes
- Stir into frosting or ganache for a malted finish
- Add to milk-based custards or ice cream bases before churning
How should I store the resealable 1 lb canister to keep it fresh?
The canister includes a resealable lid to preserve aroma and prevent moisture exposure. Store in a cool, dry pantry away from direct sunlight, and always reseal after each use; a sticker on the bottom shows the production date and lot number for reference.
- Keep the tub tightly closed between uses
- Store at room temperature in a dry place, away from humidity
- Check the bottom sticker for production date/lot information
