Tasting notes: Blackcurrant, plum, berry, & pineapple
Abana Estate is the Omran family’s coffee project near Gera, Ethiopia. Founded by Peter Omran and now managed by his sons Michael and Chris, it carries a name meaning ‘our fathers’ in Arabic, reflecting Ethiopia’s coffee heritage. Peter’s background in humanitarian work continues through the estate’s support for a local preschool, medical care and community sports facilities.
This heirloom lot comes from Anderacha, a section of the estate named after the river along its boundary. Proud Mary describes a 24–36-hour cherry rest before natural drying, allowing controlled fermentation to intensify the fruit character. The resulting cup combines blackcurrant, plum and mixed berries with a pineapple lift, offering an expressive fruit profile for both filter and espresso brewing.
