The My Father La Promesa Robusto Grande is built around a promise that ultimately changed the course of the García family. Before leaving Cuba, José “Pepín” García vowed to establish himself beyond the island while remaining faithful to his family's cigar-making heritage. Today, My Father's tobacco farms and factory in Nicaragua stand as tangible evidence that he kept his word. La Promesa was created to commemorate that journey, handcrafted in Estelí with Nicaraguan binder and filler from García family farms beneath an Ecuadorian Habano Rosado Oscuro wrapper.
Measuring 5½" x 54, the Robusto Grande gives La Promesa a broader, richer presentation than the Petite or Corona Gorda. The additional tobacco produces a dense mouthful of smoke and gives the Nicaraguan core greater prominence, building around cedar, earth, leather and roasted coffee before the Rosado Oscuro wrapper introduces pepper, aromatic spice and a measured sweetness. There's power underneath, as you'd expect from Pepín García, but the larger format rounds its sharper edges and allows the blend's richer textures to come forward.
The Robusto Grande is a fine example of why large-ring cigars needn't sacrifice definition when the blend has been constructed specifically for the format. It has the weight and smoke production enthusiasts expect from a 54 ring gauge without becoming blunt or ponderous. For the My Father devotee who wants La Promesa with a little more breadth and authority, the Robusto Grande delivers the García family's signature in particularly satisfying fashion.
