The My Father La Promesa Lancero may be the vitola that tells you the most about the tobacco behind La Promesa. The blend itself commemorates José “Pepín” García's promise to his family when he left Cuba—to succeed in the cigar world beyond his homeland without abandoning the traditions that shaped him. Handcrafted at the García family's My Father Cigars factory in Estelí, La Promesa surrounds Nicaraguan binder and long-fillers from the family's own farms with a dark Ecuadorian Habano Rosado Oscuro wrapper. In the Lancero, that wrapper isn't merely decoration; it becomes one of the principal voices in the cigar.
At 7½" x 38, the proportions change everything. The slender ring gauge dramatically increases the wrapper-to-filler relationship, bringing the Rosado Oscuro's aromatic sweetness, pepper and refined spice into sharper focus. Beneath it, the Nicaraguan tobaccos contribute cedar, roasted coffee, leather and earth, but in a more precise, linear presentation than you'll encounter in the heavier formats. Smoke it slowly—as a proper Lancero demands—and the reward is clarity rather than sheer volume, with subtle transitions becoming easier to recognize as the cigar progresses.
For an aficionado, this may be the most revealing La Promesa in the box. Lanceros are unforgiving: mediocre tobacco and careless construction have nowhere to hide. In capable hands, however, the format can expose the architecture of a blend better than almost anything else. With Pepín García's tobacco and rolling tradition behind it, the La Promesa Lancero is less about strength than precision—a long, slender demonstration of why exceptional wrapper leaf deserves to be tasted, not merely admired.
