Babe Tangerine Dream is a beloved staple from Jasper Brewing Company, Canada's first National Park brewpub. Part of their ultra-approachable "Babe" series (alongside the popular Babe Blueberry Vanilla), this Fruit Lager is famously marketed with a direct premise: it is a crushable fruit bomb that tastes a little like a weekend brunch mimosa and a lot like your new favorite beer. It is explicitly crafted for those who want to completely escape aggressive hop bitterness and heavy grain bills, acting as a vibrant, carbonated splash of pure citrus sunshine.
Beer Description
Babe Tangerine Dream pours a hazy, bright golden-orange color mimicking a glass of fresh, pulp-free juice topped with a frothy white head that crackles down quickly.
Aroma: The nose is unapologetically punchy and fruit-forward. It leads with dominant notes of fresh-squeezed tangerine, candied orange slices, and bright citrus zest, backed by a very faint, clean whisper of pale malt. It smells incredibly refreshing, akin to cracking open a premium Italian orange soda.
Palate: On the tongue, it is light-bodied with a highly refreshing, effervescent "zing." It leads with a burst of sweet tangerine juice and tangy citrus flesh, which entirely takes center stage over any traditional beer flavors. The mid-palate has a soft, delicate malt backbone that provides structure, ending with an exceptionally clean, slightly sweet, and crisp finish.
Profile: It sits at a standard 4.8% ABV and a very low bitterness of 12 IBU, completely prioritizing juicy refreshment over hop presence.
Technical Notes: To achieve its highly specific profile, Jasper Brewing starts with a classic, ultra-clean Lager base brewed with 100% Albertan malted barley. The magic happens through the infusion of natural tangerine extract and zest. By utilizing a neutral lager yeast and fermenting it clean, the brewers ensure there are no competing yeast esters or heavy phenols, allowing the natural, bright acidity and sweetness of the citrus to be the absolute star of the show.
