This structured and 'crystalline' red wine originates from New Zealand, within the world-renowned Central Otago region on the South Island the southernmost commercial wine-growing region on Earth. Produced by Invivo Wines the acclaimed estate co-founded in 2008 by Tim Lightbourne and winemaker Rob Cameron this Pinot Noir reflects the high-altitude, continental terroir of Central Otago. Sourced primarily from choice vineyard sites in the Bannockburn and Gibbston sub-regions, the vines are rooted in nutrient-poor, free-draining schist, gravel, and quartz-rich soils over glacial till. The extreme continental microclimate is characterized by scorching, sun-drenched summer days, low humidity, and sharp, cool night breezes descending from the Southern Alps. This dramatic diurnal temperature fluctuation allows Pinot Noir to accumulate intense black-and-red fruit concentration and ripe skin phenolics while preserving a brilliant, age-worthy natural acidity.
Wine Description
Invivo Central Otago Pinot Noir presents a luminous, deep crimson-ruby color in the glass with vivid violet and magenta highlights along the rim. Its sensory profile is exceptionally fresh, high-toned, and complex, delivering an elegant, intense, and precisely focused expression of South Island Pinot Noir. The bouquet opens with a soaring display of wild dark cherries, black plums, and ripe raspberries, seamlessly layered with complex underlays of dried thyme, wild violet, sweet baking spices, cocoa nibs, and a distinct line of crushed schist minerality. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, sleek, and athletic, showcasing a succulent core of dark stone fruits, blood orange peel, and subtle earthy herbs. It is characterized by its outstanding inner energy and an incisive, mouthwatering backbone of natural acidity that effortlessly lifts its mid-palate fruit extract. The mouthfeel is broad, silky, and supple, framed by fine-grained, chalky tannins that glide into an extraordinarily long, dry, and savory finish accented by persistent notes of cherry skin, wild herbs, and forest floor.
