A refined and fruit-infused Highland malt, Glenmorangie 12 Year Old Calvados Cask marries Scotland’s classic single malt depth with the aromatic vivacity of French apple brandy barrels. Bright, elegant, and expressive, it brings lush orchard fruit and gentle spice into harmony with creamy malt character—an excellent choice for both contemplative sipping and elevated cocktails.
Origins & Craftsmanship
Produced by Glenmorangie Distillery, perched on the rugged northern coast of the Scottish Highlands, this expression begins with Glenmorangie’s signature spirit—light, floral, and intricately balanced, thanks to the distillery’s famously tall copper stills.
After initial maturation, the whisky is finished for an extended period in Calvados casks previously seasoned with Normandy apple brandy. These casks impart a distinctive fruit character and aromatic complexity while allowing the Highland spirit’s core elegance to remain at the forefront. The approach is meticulous, designed to integrate cask influence without overshadowing the underlying malt.
Tasting Profile
Nose:
Fresh and inviting, with aromas of baked apple, pear blossom, lemon zest, and soft vanilla, layered over gentle honeyed malt and a hint of orchard spice.
Palate:
Medium-bodied and harmonious, revealing crisp orchard fruit—apple and quince—alongside mellow malt sweetness, subtle baking spice, and a touch of oak tannin. The Calvados cask influence adds a distinctive fruit lift that complements the whisky’s inherent smoothness.
Finish:
Clean, balanced, and lingering, with apple peel brightness, warm spice, and a delicate echo of vanilla-toffee that gently recedes.
