Château Mouton Rothschild Le Petit Mouton 2023 is the prestigious second wine of First Growth legend Château Mouton Rothschild, harvested, vinified, and aged with the same meticulous attention to detail as the Grand Vin. Sourced from selected estate parcels in the deep pebbly gravel soils of Pauillac, this vintage comprises a blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. In the glass, it reveals a dark crimson color with expressive aromatics of blackberry, bilberry, cassis, cigar wrapper, white pepper, and graphite. On the palate, it is full-bodied, rich, and beautifully textured, delivering dense black fruit flavors framed by fine, silky tannins and vibrant freshness that carry through to a long, sophisticated finish.
Food Pairing: Pairs wonderfully with roasted rack of lamb, grilled ribeye steak, duck breast, braised beef short ribs, wild mushroom ragù, and aged Comté cheese.
96 Points - James Suckling
This is a tighter and more compact Petit Mouton with a full-bodied, compact palate that is framed nicely by the tannins. Savory and juicy. Structured. Contained. 79% cabernet sauvignon, 12% merlot, 7% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot. Better than 2022?
93 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2023 Le Petit Mouton offers up aromas of cassis, burning embers and cigar wrapper, framed by a touch of toasty oak. Full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it's rich, dense and layered, with an ample core of fruit and ripe structuring tannins.
93 Points - Wine Enthusiast
92-94. Barrel Sample. This second wine is smoky with rich tannins and a smooth texture that promises some good aging. It is a structured and powerful wine that should develop well.
