Introduction
Campio Czech Amber Lager is brewed by Campio Brewing Co. in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Established in 2018, the brewery is part of the Bearhill family of brewpubs and operates out of a flagship location in Edmonton's downtown Ice District. The brewery aims to fuse the city's blue-collar heritage with an artistic flair, producing a diverse range of beers that reflect the local community.
Beer Description
This traditional Czech style lager, also known as Polotmavý Ležák or 'half-dark beer', presents a bright and crisp amber appearance. The sensory profile is led by a rich and complex malt aroma featuring prominent notes of toasty bread, caramel, and a subtle hint of chocolate. On the palate, it delivers deep toasted malt and biscuity flavours balanced by the distinctive floral, earthy, and woody notes of traditional Czech Saaz hops. The body is smooth and medium-full, offering a warm yet crushable mouthfeel that concludes with a gentle, clean bitterness. This brew is crafted with a complex grain bill and has an ABV of 4.7%. There is no information available to suggest this beer is organic.
Food Pairing
The malty complexity and balanced bitterness of this amber lager make it a versatile partner for a wide range of dishes. It pairs particularly well with spicy Asian cuisine, such as miso ramen, as the malt sweetness complements the savoury and spicy broth. Its toasty notes also make it a classic match for grilled meats, including beef burgers and steaks, or hearty Alberta-inspired fare like Detroit-style deep dish pizza. For a lighter pairing, consider serving it with roasted chicken or snacks like warm salted pretzels, which enhance the beer's bready character.
