Bret Brothers Juliénas La Bottière 2023 is a premium red wine from the Juliénas Cru, the northernmost appellation of the Beaujolais region in France. The Bret Brothers micro-négociant was founded in 2001 by Jean-Philippe and Jean-Guillaume Bret, who apply the same meticulous organic and biodynamic standards to purchased grapes as they do to their own estate, Domaine de la Soufrandière. The La Bottière cuvée is sourced from a tiny 0.5-hectare plot of old vines situated on pure granite and ancient alluvial soils.
Wine Description
This 100% Gamay is crafted in a 'throwback' style reminiscent of classic, old-era Beaujolais.
Colour: It typically presents a bright, transparent garnet to ruby red colour.
Aroma: The nose is highly aromatic and delicate, featuring scents of ripe red cherry, raspberries, and crushed violets, with subtle hints of pepper and meadow herbs.
Palate: On the palate, the wine is juicy and fresh, showcasing dark fruit flavours of cherries and stewed plums alongside piquant notes of stone and licorice.
Body and Finish: It is characterized by its round texture and fine-grained, supple tannins that provide a firm yet elegant structure. The finish is long and slightly spicy with a distinct mineral lift.
Technical Details: Part of the "Zen" series, the wine is fermented with 100% whole clusters and undergoes carbonic maceration using native yeasts. It is aged for approximately 10 to 11 months in used Burgundian oak barrels and bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulfur additions (10–20 mg/L). The wine typically possesses an ABV of around 13%.
