Wrexham Lager holds a storied place in brewing history as the oldest lager brewery in the United Kingdom, founded in 1882 by German immigrants Ivan Levinstein and Otto Isler. Based in Wrexham, North Wales, the brewery gained international fame for its ability to stay fresh during long sea voyages, leading it to be served on the British Army’s Nile Expedition and even famously listed on the beverage menu of the RMS Titanic. After a period of closure, the brand was vibrantly revived in 2011, returning to its original roots of quality and Welsh pride.
Beer Description
This classic Welsh Lager is a brilliant, crystal-clear pale gold with a steady stream of fine carbonation and a frothy, white head.
Aroma: It features a clean, delicate nose with traditional noble hop characteristics—offering light herbal and floral notes—complemented by a sweet, bready malt base.
Palate: The flavor is incredibly balanced and smooth. It delivers a gentle malty sweetness and a hint of honey, followed by a crisp, refreshing snap of bitterness that cleanses the palate.
Profile: It has an ABV of 4.0%, making it an exceptionally sessionable and "crushable" lager designed for easy drinking without sacrificing flavor.
Technical Notes: Brewed using soft Welsh water and a slow, cold-maturation process. It utilizes a traditional blend of hops and premium malted barley to maintain the authentic "Export" style character that made the brewery famous over a century ago.
