Vitamatic Citric Acid Powder 5 lb is a food-grade, 100% pure anhydrous crystalline citric acid in fine granules designed for cooking, baking, preserving, and household cleaning tasks.
Packaged in a large 80 oz bag, this pure citric acid powder delivers a concentrated, tart acidulant that dissolves easily and contains no fillers, sugars, or artificial additives. Its fine crystalline texture works well in recipes, canning, beverage balancing, and routine descaling or stain removal around the home. Because it’s food-grade, you can use it safely in culinary applications as well as in non-food chores that require a natural acid.
How does Vitamatic citric acid improve cooking and baking?
Citric acid brings a bright, tart note that balances sweetness and enhances other flavors without adding liquid. It’s ideal for making sour candies, adjusting jam or jam-like preserves, and stabilizing some doughs and batters. Use it sparingly: a little goes a long way.
- Measure small doses precisely—start with 1/8–1/4 teaspoon for flavor adjustments.
- Blend into dry mixes for evenly distributed tartness.
- Dissolve in warm water for syrups, glazes, or beverage acidification.
Can I use this citric acid for preserving and canning?
Yes—its acidity helps lower pH and can improve color and flavor stability in preserves and jams. Because it’s pure and food-grade, it’s a reliable option for recipes that call for a concentrated acid source. Follow tested preserving recipes for safe, accurate acid levels.
- Add to fruit preserves to brighten flavor and help retain color.
- Use measured additions for jam or jelly recipes as specified by trusted guides.
- Store the powder in a cool, dry place to maintain potency between batches.
What household cleaning tasks work well with citric acid?
Citric acid is an effective, low-toxic option for removing limescale, mineral deposits, rust stains, and soap scum. It dissolves easily in warm water and can be used to descale kettles, coffee makers, and showerheads or to brighten grout and metal fixtures. Always rinse surfaces thoroughly after treatment.
- Dissolve 1–2 tablespoons in warm water for descaling small appliances.
- Make a paste for targeted stain removal on metal or porcelain.
- Use diluted solutions for general household wiping or spot treatments.
How much should I buy and how should I store this product?
The 5 lb (80 oz) size is suited for home cooks, small-batch preservers, and households that use citric acid regularly for cleaning and food prep. Keep the bag sealed, and store it away from humidity and strong odors to preserve its free-flowing crystalline texture and potency. Proper storage extends shelf life and keeps the powder clump-free.
- Bulk 5 lb bag supplies many culinary and household projects.
- Reseal or transfer to an airtight container to prevent moisture uptake.
- Label and keep in a cool, dry pantry or cupboard away from sunlight.
