Originating from Argentina in the South American region, specifically within the high-altitude Valle de Uco appellation in Mendoza, Viña Cobos 'Felino' Chardonnay represents an aromatic, precise, and fresh expression of New World Chardonnay crafted with European restraint. Founded in 1999 by visionary American winemaker Paul Hobbs alongside Argentine partners, Viña Cobos is celebrated for elevating Mendoza terroirs to global acclaim through meticulous vineyard management and non-interventionalist winemaking. Sourced from select high-elevation vineyards situated between 990 and 1,200 metres above sea level on gravelly, limestone-rich alluvial soils, the winemaking philosophy combines hand harvesting, cold whole-cluster pressing, native yeast fermentation, and partial barrel aging in French oak (approximately 15% to 20% new) alongside stainless steel tanks. The result is a vibrant Chardonnay that highlights pure white stone fruit, bright citrus tension, and delicate mineral energy.
Wine Description
The wine presents a brilliant, clear straw yellow colour with luminous pale green reflections along the rim. An expressive, highly fragrant bouquet opens with inviting aromas of green apple, white peach, fresh pear, and lemon curd, interwoven with subtle notes of jasmine, white flowers, crushed limestone, brioche, and delicate toasted oak spice. On the palate, it is medium bodied, crisp, and beautifully balanced, delivering concentrated flavours of crisp orchard fruit, citrus zest, and tropical mango, all anchored by a bright, mouthwatering core of natural acidity. Framed by a satiny texture derived from gentle lees stirring and a focused mid-palate structure, it concludes with a clean, persistent finish marked by lingering white fruit, citrus peel, and a refreshing mineral grip. Composed of 100% Chardonnay, it effortlessly marries Mendoza's high-altitude sunshine and fruit purity with Paul Hobbs' signature precision, balance, and elegance.
