Introduction
This white wine originates from New Zealand, produced from vineyards across the East Coast of the North Island and the renowned Marlborough region. Villa Maria is a historic family owned winery founded in 1961 by Sir George Fistonich, and it has remained at the forefront of the New Zealand wine industry for over 60 years. The winery's philosophy is centred on a commitment to quality and sustainable viticulture, utilizing professional viticulturists to ensure vines are resilient and capable of producing consistently superb fruit.
Wine Description
The Villa Maria Pinot Gris 'Private Bin' exhibits a pale straw colour with delicate yellow hues. The nose is aromatic and enticing, offering fresh scents of ripe pear, crunchy red apple, and floral blossoms such as honeysuckle, accented by a sprinkling of baking spice. On the palate, the wine is medium bodied with a rich and silky mouthfeel, showcasing flavours of juicy stone fruits, nashi pear, and hints of ginger or almond. It is characterized by a delicate balance between refreshing acidity and a delicious off dry finish. This 100% Pinot Gris typically features an ABV of 13% to 13.5% and is fermented in stainless steel tanks with a brief period of ageing on yeast lees to enhance texture. While Villa Maria produces an organic range called EarthGarden, the Private Bin is not certified organic. The optimal drinking window is while the wine is young and fresh, generally within 2 years of the vintage.
