The name "Tre Vigne" (or Trevìe in local dialect) refers to the selection of grapes from three historic vineyard sites: Castiglione Falletto, Monforte d'Alba, and La Morra. Sourced from vines aged between 28 and 43 years, this cuvée is designed to be a more structured and rounded expression compared to its sibling, the Barbera d'Asti Tre Vigne. Vietti’s philosophy for this label is to provide a wine that is both accessible in its youth and capable of short-to-medium-term cellar aging.
Wine Description
The 2023 vintage presents a deep ruby-red color with youthful purple edges. The nose is packed with high-toned aromas of ripe red cherries, violets, and vanilla, layered with darker notes of licorice, cloves, and baking spices. On the palate, the wine is medium-to-full-bodied and plush, featuring a vibrant "crunchy" fruit core. It is characterized by Barbera’s signature bright acidity, which provides lift and tension, balanced by sweet, integrated tannins and a long, fruity finish with hints of mocha and chocolate.
The wine is 100% Barbera grown in limestone and clay-rich soils. Following a two-week fermentation in stainless steel with daily pumping-over to extract color and flavor, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation. It is aged for approximately one year in a combination of stainless steel tanks, French barriques, and large oak casks to achieve a balanced presence of wood that enhances rather than masks the fruit. The 2023 release has an ABV of 14.5%.
