How to Brew Velvet Vanilla Cardamom
Drip Machine Your everyday drip setup works beautifully here. Use a medium grind at your standard ratio, brewing between 195–205°F. The vanilla and cardamom notes develop slowly through the cycle, coming together in a smooth, well-rounded cup.
French Press Use a coarse grind and steep for 4 minutes at 195–200°F, pressing slowly. Full immersion brings out the richer, more aromatic side of the cardamom and gives the vanilla a softer, creamier body.
Pour Over Use a medium grind at a 1:15 ratio (27g coffee to 405g water) at 200–205°F over 3:30–4:00 minutes. A cleaner brew that highlights the floral lift of the cardamom up front, with vanilla on the finish.
Latte / Milk Drink Pull a double shot with ground-for-espresso grind and steam your milk of choice. Oat milk and whole milk both pair exceptionally well — the fat softens the spice and lets the vanilla shine through in a way that makes this taste like a dessert drink without actually being one.
Brewing Tips
- Don't over-extract. Cardamom can turn sharp at high temperatures or with too-fine a grind. Keep water at or below 205°F and use a medium grind as your starting point.
- Oat milk is your best friend here. The creaminess of oat milk complements both the vanilla and cardamom without overwhelming either.
- This one makes a beautiful latte. It's one of the few flavored coffees that genuinely tastes intentional as an espresso-milk drink — not just flavored drip with foam on top.
- Try it iced. Brew double-strength over ice for a quick vanilla cardamom iced coffee that's clean and refreshing without losing the spice.
- Store properly. Keep whole beans in an airtight container away from heat and light. Consume within 2–4 weeks of roast date for the brightest flavor.
