Why This Bundle Matters:
This pairing offers a rare opportunity to compare how two distinct distilleries—MGP and a blend of Buffalo Trace and Wild Turkey—respond to extended aging in Virginia's sweltering rickhouse. Both barrels spent significant time at The Reveries facility, experiencing heat cycles that accelerate maturation and concentrate fruit-forward characteristics.
The Tasting Experience:
10-Year MGP (Pick #148):
- Nose: Berries, melon, stone fruits, banana, vanilla crème brûlée
- Palate: Waves of fruit and deep vanilla, seamless sweetness to spice transition
- Finish: Medium-long with fruit, vanilla, and oak balance
17-Year Buff Turkey (Pick #149):
- Nose: Red fruit dominant, tropical fruit hints
- Palate: Dark red fruits, tropical undertones, no typical turkey melon notes
- Finish: Extended cherry and oak without tannic dryness
Bundle Exclusivity:
The 17-year Buff Turkey expression (Pick #149) represents The Prime Barrel's most premium "Buff Turkey" selection to date. Due to limited bottle availability and exceptional quality, we've made this barrel bundle exclusive. The only way to secure a bottle is through this two-bottle package.
This creates a unique collecting opportunity: acquire both expressions or miss the 17-year entirely.
The Prime Barrel Selection Story:
Both barrels were sampled during the same Virginia trip in 2025. The 10-year MGP earned unanimous acclaim from our on-site selection panel, including renowned whiskey expert Jay West (T8ke). The 17-year-old Buff Turkey underwent virtual selection, allowing dozens of Prime Barrel members to vote and participate in choosing this premium barrel.
Together, they represent community-driven curation at its finest.
