The Glenlivet
George Smith founded The Glenlivet in 1824 in the remote Livet valley of Speyside, one of the first distilleries in the area to take out a licence after the Excise Act of 1823. Mineral-rich water from Josie's Well and tall, wide copper stills help give the spirit its delicate, fruity character.
The whisky
The 12 Year Old is first matured in traditional European oak, then spends time in American oak casks that bring vanilla and a smooth texture. The Glenlivet describe it as smooth, balanced and fruity, with strong pineapple notes and a long, creamy finish.
How to enjoy it
Try it neat first, then with a splash of water. Its light, fruity style also works well over a large ice cube or in a highball with chilled soda on a warm evening.
