1. Introduction
This single malt Scotch whisky originates from Scotland, specifically the Island region, produced at the Arran Distillery in Lochranza on the Isle of Arran. The distillery was founded in 1994 by Harold Currie, a former director at Chivas Brothers, marking the revival of legal whisky production on the island after a 155-year gap. The Isle of Arran Distillers, the current owner, maintains a core range of single malts and aims to create a spirit that is rich but gentle and fruity.
2. Wine Description
This whisky is a non-age-statement single malt that is first matured in traditional oak casks (often ex-Bourbon) for several years, then 'finished' in a selection of Amarone wine casks sourced from an artisan producer in the Veneto region of Italy.
The colour is described as burnished copper with an unusual reddish or pinkish hue, as no artificial colouring is added. The aroma offers notes of cherry, 'Turkish delight,' chocolate, poached pears, a touch of cranberry, and honey. On the palate, expect plums, cherries, cinnamon, liquorice, and blackberries, often with notes of dark chocolate, stewed fruits, and toffee. The body is full and rounded. The finish is medium to long, with sweetness, pears, 'Turkish delight,' cherries, and dark chocolate. The wine cask influence brings a luxurious Italian wine character that complements the complex and vibrant Scottish malt. The optimal drinking window is not specified, as this is a spirit. The alcohol by volume (ABV) is 50%. The whisky is non-chill filtered and has natural colour. Information on the whisky being organic is not available.
