Tenuta del Pajaru Meridionale Tre Tenute Cuvee Privata 2019 is a rich, robust, and captivating southern Italian red blend that masterfully unites three iconic regional grape varieties: Montepulciano, Primitivo, and Nerello Mascalese. Sourced from the organic and sustainably farmed estate vineyards of Famiglia De Cerchio, this vegan-friendly wine reveals a deep ruby-red color with slow-running tears in the glass. The highly expressive, dextrous nose balances ripe aromas of blackcurrant, dark chocolate, and cherry confiture with complex undertones of clove, tobacco leaf, balsamic notes, and a touch of blood orange peel. On the palate, the wine is intense, warm, and full-bodied, delivering a remarkably plush and velvety texture. A concentrated core of jammy dark forest fruits is thrown into sharp relief by a bold blaze of cinnamon and black pepper, supported by textured, substantial tannins and a lifting wave of natural acidity that carries into a long, savory, and beautifully sustained finish.

On the palate, a blaze of cinnamon and black pepper throws the blackberry, clove and citrus notes into sharp relief, while waves of acid crash against textured, substantial tannins. Aromas and flavors of cherry-based confiture with hints of balsamic and cigar box. Full-bodied with the same savory tones dominating the palate. The tannins are fine and are sinking into the wine. Long, tasty finish. Montepulciano, primitivo and nerello mascalese. From organically grown grapes. Vegan. Sustainable. Enticing, if a little wild at present, this should calm down with a year or two in bottle. Try from 2024.
