Stranahan’s Founder’s Release 12 Year Old is a landmark limited-edition expression from one of America’s pioneering craft whiskey distillers. Matured for a dozen years and bottled at 120 proof, it delivers bold depth, vibrant spice, and concentrated malt character — a monumental tribute to both the distillery’s heritage and the federal recognition of American single malt whiskey.
Origins & Craftsmanship
Produced by Stranahan’s Distillery in Denver, Colorado, this expression celebrates two decades of the brand’s leadership in American single malt — a category it helped pioneer. Stranahan’s crafts whiskey from 100% malted barley, fermented and distilled in small batches before aging in new charred American oak barrels. For the Founder’s Release, the spirit spent at least 12 years in barrel, with a finishing phase in casks that previously held bourbon and blonde ale, enhancing complexity and layered nuance. The result reflects high-altitude maturation, mountain-spring water integration, and meticulous blending under the guidance of founder Jess Graber and the distillery’s master craftsmen.
Tasting Profile
Nose:
A striking aromatic presence of spiced malt, snickerdoodle cookie, and baked apple pie, complemented by hints of cream soda and warm cloves, signaling extended maturation and oak development.
Palate:
Full-bodied and viscous, with waves of creamy oak, toffee, and rich barley sugar, interlaced with coffee cream and clove spice that give way to deeper fruit and roasted grain layers.
Finish:
Long and satisfying, lingering with berry notes, toasted oak, and lingering spice that balance the high proof with harmonious depth.
