The CRAFT Maquette El Marinero is a small-batch release from RoMa Craft Tobac that leans into experimentation, storytelling, and raw craftsmanship.
Rolled in a 4 3/4 x 54 box-pressed gran robusto, El Marinero features a Mexican San Andrés wrapper over a rare Ometepe binder from Nicaragua—marking the first time RoMa Craft has used tobacco from this volcanic island. Beneath that, a complex filler blend pulls from Corojo out of La Canela, Dominican Republic, along with Nicaraguan Criollo from Condega, Estelí, and Jalapa.
The result is a profile built on contrast. The Ometepe binder adds a sharp, defining edge that cuts through the richness of the wrapper and the depth of the fillers, creating a balanced but dynamic smoking experience.
Inspired by The Old Man and the Sea, founder Skip Martin’s time in the Navy, and cigar industry figure Carlos Sanchez, this release carries a deeper narrative—one rooted in resilience, craftsmanship, and respect for tradition.
As part of the CRAFT Maquette series, this blend offers a look inside the RoMa Craft blending process. Some Maquette releases preview future projects, others—like El Marinero—stand entirely on their own.
