The Rocky Patel The Edge 20th Anniversary Toro looks back to one of the most consequential cigars in Rocky Patel's career. Development of The Edge began in 2002, with the finished cigar arriving two years later in huge 100-count crates and, originally, without conventional cigar bands. Patel was told the idea was crazy. Instead, smokers embraced the combination of serious tobacco, bold flavor and straightforward presentation, turning The Edge into a cornerstone of the Rocky Patel portfolio. For the 20th Anniversary, Patel deliberately returned to a Sumatra wrapper, connecting the commemorative blend to the tobacco behind the earliest Edge concept.
At 6" x 52, the Toro showcases an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper aged for more than a decade over a robust Central American core. The traditional Toro proportions strike an excellent balance between wrapper and filler, allowing the mature Sumatra leaf to contribute aromatic spice and sweetness without masking the deeper tobacco underneath. Cedar, earth and black pepper establish the cigar's backbone, followed by cocoa, coffee and roasted character with a subtle sweetness appearing through the finish. Medium-to-full in body, it retains the authority expected of The Edge but delivers it with noticeably greater maturity and composure.
Of the three sizes, the 6 x 52 Toro is arguably the most complete expression of the blend. There's enough length for the cigar to develop gradually, enough interior tobacco to showcase its richness, and still enough wrapper influence to appreciate why Rocky Patel held that Sumatra leaf for more than ten years. The original Edge built its reputation by offering serious smokers far more cigar than its presentation suggested. Twenty years later, this Anniversary Toro takes the same fundamental idea and shows what happens when time, exceptional wrapper tobacco and two additional decades of blending experience are added to the equation.
