The Rocky Patel The Edge 20th Anniversary Sixty gives the commemorative Edge blend its biggest canvas. The original Edge began as something of a rebellion against premium-cigar convention—bold cigars packed in massive crates with virtually none of the elaborate presentation normally associated with high-end tobacco. It became a tremendous success and one of the cigars most closely identified with Rocky Patel. Two decades after beginning work on that original project, Patel commemorated it by returning to Sumatra wrapper tobacco, but this time with a remarkable advantage: the Ecuadorian Sumatra selected for the anniversary cigar had been aged for more than ten years.
At 6" x 60, the Sixty—often categorized by retailers as a Gordo—puts considerably more interior tobacco behind that aged Sumatra wrapper than either the Robusto or Toro. The broader proportions shift the experience toward the core of the blend, bringing earth, wood and roasted tobacco forward alongside cocoa, coffee and pepper. The Sumatra wrapper remains evident through aromatic spice and underlying sweetness, but the 60-ring format spreads the intensity across a larger volume of smoke, giving the cigar a broader, slower and somewhat rounder presentation than its narrower siblings.
That's an important distinction for the large-ring smoker. The Sixty isn't simply a Toro with more tobacco packed inside; its proportions change which components of the blend command your attention. The aged wrapper is more prominent in the Robusto, balance is the Toro's strength, while the Sixty gives the rich interior tobaccos their greatest opportunity to speak. For aficionados who prefer The Edge in a substantial format, this is the 20th Anniversary expression built for a long, deliberate smoke—still unmistakably Edge, but considerably more mature than the cigar that first appeared in those rough wooden crates two decades earlier.
