Wine Description
The 2022 Willamette Valley Chardonnay displays a pale straw-yellow hue with brilliant clarity. On the nose, it exudes aromas of green apple, lemon zest, and white peach, alongside delicate floral and mineral undertones. The palate is vibrant, featuring crisp acidity and flavors of citrus, pear, and a touch of tropical fruit. Subtle hints of toasted oak and vanilla add depth without overpowering the wine’s natural elegance. The finish is long and refreshing, with a clean, mineral-driven conclusion.
Food Pairing
This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with dishes such as grilled salmon, roasted chicken, creamy risottos, or shellfish like oysters and scallops. Its bright acidity and balanced texture also make it an excellent match for goat cheese or salads with citrus vinaigrette.
Accolades
- Wine Enthusiast: 93 points – Praised for its elegance, balance, and integration of oak and fruit.
- Wine Spectator: 91 points – Recognized for its vibrant acidity and nuanced layers of fruit and minerality.
- James Suckling: 92 points – Highlighted for its fresh citrus character, clean finish, and exceptional quality.
Additional Notes
The 2022 growing season in the Willamette Valley featured cooler temperatures, allowing for extended ripening and excellent flavor development in the grapes. The use of partial French oak aging, with a blend of new and neutral barrels, lends complexity and texture without overshadowing the wine's purity. This Chardonnay reflects the unique terroir of Prince Hill Vineyards and the skillful craftsmanship of the Duncan family.
