Legends never really vanish; they just take new forms in charred oak. Preservation Distillery honors that enduring American frontier mythos by meticulously dumping some of their oldest, most prized pot-stilled stocks to create the Buffalo Bill Outlaw Edition. It defies modern commercial shortcuts. Nestled in Bardstown, this boutique operation champions slow, vintage-style whiskey making that yields a phenomenally rich texture. Bottled from a minuscule batch of eight-year-old barrels, this expression commands your absolute attention.
True pot still bourbon demands patience. Unlike the hyper-efficient column stills dominating Kentucky’s massive industrial plants, the archaic copper pot method used here retains a staggering amount of heavy, flavor-dense congeners. The result is profoundly viscous. I find the sheer weight of the spirit on the palate genuinely astonishing, as it clings to the glass with a decadent, almost syrupy resolve. This meticulous eight-year maturation forces the rugged distillate to harmonize into an impossibly lush profile.
- Distilled entirely in archaic copper pot stills for maximum congener retention.
- Aged a minimum of eight years in deeply charred American oak.
- Bottled from a strictly allocated micro-batch to preserve maximum character.
Allocation season brings out fierce hunters. Because this micro-batch release yields such a limited bottle count, securing a pour of this untamed frontier homage feels like capturing lightning in a glass. You must savor every drop. It strikes a pivotal balance between aggressive cask strength heat and an underlying velvety sweetness. Whiskey purists will undoubtedly celebrate this unapologetic, bruising masterpiece.
