This rich and 'classy' vintage Champagne originates from France, within the prestigious Champagne AOC, sourced from 20 Grand and Premier Cru vineyards across the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs. Founded in 1849, Pol Roger remains one of the few fiercely independent, family-owned Champagne houses. The house's philosophy is anchored in a traditional approach to craftsmanship, famously maintaining deep chalk cellars 33 metres below street level in Épernay where every single vintage bottle is still meticulously riddled by hand. Offered in a 1.5 litre magnum format, this bottling benefits from a slower maturation curve that naturally enhances aromatic complexity and textural finesse over time.
Wine Description
The 2018 Pol Roger Brut Vintage presents a beautiful pale yellow colour with bright silver highlights and an alluring, fine persistent mousse. Its sensory profile is generous and expressive, opening with a seductive nose of lemon peel, yellow fruits like Mirabelle plum, fresh brioche, and roasted hazelnuts, layered with deeper nuances of dried fruit, almond, and cocoa. On the palate, the Champagne is full-bodied and textural, showcasing a muscular core of rich, sweet orchard fruit, apricot, and pastry cream. It is balanced by a remarkably fresh backbone of crisp, zesty citrus acidity that carries seamlessly into a long, enveloping finish defined by a chalky minerality and notes of candied orange peel. This traditional house vintage blend consists of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. Sourced entirely from pristine cru parcels, each variety and village lot was kept separate during a cool stainless steel fermentation to retain maximum varietal clarity. The wine underwent a full malolactic fermentation before aging for over four years on its fine lees in the estate's cool cellars, eventually being disgorged with a precise dosage of 7 grams per litre. It reached an alcohol content (ABV) of 12.5% and is not certified organic.
