Picture this: it’s the eve of your next dinner party. Rather than showing up with a run-of-the-mill Sauvignon Blanc, you walk through the door with our Penpal Viognier. Not only will you amaze your friends by knowing how to pronounce this somewhat obscure French varietal (vyohn-yay), you will also introduce their palate to something new and delicious they are sure to write home about. The Viognier grape variety is known as a “late ripener,” meaning it needs an extended period on the vine to develop its signature perfumed aromas and intense fruity flavor. Lodi offers this varietal a Mediterranean climate characterized by a long, dry growing season. These conditions allow grapes to take all the time they need to reach their full potential, making this wine a wonderful example of the notorious expression “great things take time.” A rich, opulent palate offers an explosion of fruit flavor sure to impress at any social event.
