Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve 20 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is one of the most celebrated and highly sought-after expressions in the world of American whiskey. Distilled and aged at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, this wheated bourbon utilizes a recipe that swaps the traditional rye secondary grain for wheat, contributing to its lush, creamy texture. Matured for two full decades in deep-charred new American oak barrels selected from the heart of the aging warehouses, it is bottled at 90.4 proof (45.2% ABV) to showcase a profound synthesis of heavy oak, dark fruits, dried citrus, and rich rancio-like complexity.
Food Pairing: Pairs exceptionally well with dry-aged ribeye steak, dark chocolate tarts, roasted game, pecan pie, blue cheese, or a fine cigar.
Tasting Notes: A deeply complex, ultra-aged 20-year-old wheated bourbon featuring a rich harmony of oiled leather, dark cocoa, candied citrus, dried fruits, and intense oak woodiness.
Nose: Intense and aromatic with notes of dark brown sugar, candied orange peel, dried figs, sweet vanilla, roasted coffee beans, and polished oak wood.
Palate: Full-bodied, smooth, and richly layered with flavours of dark chocolate, dried stone fruits, sweet caramel, leather, baking spices, and charred oak.
Finish: Exceptionally long and warm with enduring notes of dark cocoa, dried citrus zest, minerals, coffee, and lingering wood spice.
Serve: Best enjoyed neat in a Glencairn glass or with a few drops of room-temperature water to open up its complex aromas.
