The Orin Swift Abstract Red Blend is a rich and expressive proprietary red wine from California, United States. Founded in 1998 by David Swift Phinney, Orin Swift Cellars began with just two tons of Zinfandel and grew into an iconic brand known for its bold winemaking and evocative, collage style labels. Now part of the Gallo portfolio, the winery continues to follow Phinney’s original philosophy of sourcing high quality fruit from diverse vineyards across the state to create wines with signature drinkability and complexity.
Wine Description
This vintage presents a dark purple core with a vibrant neon ruby rim. The aromatics are intense and broody, featuring notes of ripe black plum, cacao, and black pepper, layered with hints of cedar, dried porcini, and forest floor. On the palate, the wine is full bodied and coating, offering lush flavors of blueberry preserves, dark chocolate, and balsamic glaze, balanced by a bright acidity and a touch of anise. The finish is long and satisfying, showcasing chewy tannins and a unique umami note similar to eggplant yakitori.
Food Pairing
The robust structure and dark fruit profile of the Abstract Red Blend make it an excellent companion for bold, savoury dishes such as braised beef, grilled steaks, or rich barbecue. It also pairs beautifully with Mediterranean cuisine, earthy vegetarian dishes like mushroom risotto, or a truffle brie served on crusty bread.
