Our Organic Pea and Fava Protein Granules (TVP) are a versatile plant-based ground meat alternative made from organic pea and fava bean protein concentrate. These protein-rich granules offer a tender texture and a mild flavor that readily absorbs your favorite seasonings, sauces, and spices. Perfect for vegan, vegetarian, and flexitarian cooking, they can be used as a substitute for ground meat in tacos, chili, pasta sauces, shepherd's pie, meatballs, burgers, stuffed peppers, and countless other recipes.
Produced in Denmark, these organic protein granules are made using a gentle dry-processing method that preserves dietary fibre while avoiding the intensive processing commonly associated with protein isolates. The result is a clean, sustainable, and highly nutritious meat substitute that is soy-free, gluten-free, and high in protein.
What is TVP?
- TVP stands for Textured Vegetable Protein, a high-protein plant-based ingredient commonly used as a meat substitute in vegetarian and vegan cooking.
- TVP is created by transforming plant proteins into pieces, granules, strips, or granules that develop a meat-like texture when hydrated.
- Unlike traditional soy-based TVP, these organic protein granules are made from organic pea protein concentrate and organic fava bean protein concentrate, making them completely soy-free.
- Once soaked in water, broth, or your favorite marinade, TVP absorbs flavors exceptionally well and can be used in a wide variety of savory recipes.
Only 3 Ingredients. No Additives or Preservatives.
- Many plant-based meat alternatives contain artificial flavors, gums, binders, preservatives, colorants, and other highly processed additives.
- Our Organic Pea and Fava Protein granules contain only Organic pea protein concentrate, Organic fava bean protein concentrate, and salt.
- No artificial flavors, preservatives, gums, binders, colorants, soy, gluten, or chemical solvents.
- The protein concentrates are produced through a gentle dry-fractionation process that helps retain valuable dietary fibre while maintaining a simple ingredient list.
- If you're looking for a minimally processed vegan protein that prioritizes simplicity, nutrition, and sustainability, our Organic Pea and Fava Protein granules are an excellent choice.
Why choose pea and fava bean protein instead of soy?
- Peas and fava beans are naturally high in protein and well-adapted to sustainable agriculture.
- Each 100g serving of the dry product provides approximately 53g of protein and 15g of dietary fibre.
- The proteins contain all essential amino acids.
- Many consumers choose pea and fava protein because they are free from common allergens associated with soy and gluten.
- The protein concentrates used in this product retain valuable dietary fibre that is often removed during the production of highly refined protein isolates.
How are these organic protein granules made?
- They use dry-fractionated pea and fava bean protein concentrates rather than highly refined protein isolates.
- The ingredients are transformed using a dry texturization process that uses significantly less water and energy than conventional wet-processing methods.
- No processing chemicals are used during production.
- The final product is dried, giving it a long shelf life and making it easy to store in your pantry.
- The combination of organic ingredients, dry processing methods, and shelf-stable storage results in a lower environmental impact than many conventional meat alternatives.
Tips for Best Results
- Hydration:
- Per 100 g dry TVP, add approximately 280 ml water or broth.
- Cold water: 5–10 minutes.
- Boiling water: 1–3 minutes.
- Color Enhancement:
- Add 3–10% organic beet root powder to the hydration liquid for a richer, meat-like appearance.
- Adding color during hydration helps ensure even distribution throughout the granules.
- Flavor Enhancement:
- To help mask the natural pea flavor, add approximately 3% lemon juice or vinegar.
- Seasonings such as cumin, black pepper, and smoked paprika also help reduce pea notes.
- Tomato sauce, ketchup, fruit juice, and sugar tend to enhance the pea flavor and should be balanced with savory seasonings.
