91 points, Cigar Aficionado
The Oliva Serie V Melanio Maduro Torpedo represents a masterclass in box-pressed figurado engineering, merging one of the most celebrated blends in cigar history with a dark, oily Mexican wrapper. Measuring 6½ inches with a classic 52 ring gauge, this Torpedo format features a sharply tapered cap that concentrates airflow and intensifies flavour delivery across the palate. The combination of a sleek box press and a pointed head gives the smoker precise draw control, allowing the dark cocoa, espresso, and spicy complexities of the interior tobaccos to unfurl with exceptional focus.
The structural and tobacco specifications of this exact vitola are engineered to deliver a slow, cool burn and generous smoke output across a 60-to-75-minute tasting session. Draped in an extra-fermented Mexican San Andrés Maduro wrapper leaf, the cigar utilises a hearty Nicaraguan Habano binder to contain a core of aged Nicaraguan Jalapa Valley Ligero long-fillers. Hand-rolled by master torcedores at the TABOLISA factory in Estelí, this 6½″ x 52 box-pressed Torpedo guarantees remarkable structural integrity, a straight burn line, and an evolving succession of rich, multi-layered flavours.
