Old Grand‑Dad 114 is a bold, high-proof bourbon that delivers robust flavor and undeniable character. With its spicy rye backbone and full-throttle freshness, it’s ideal for seasoned bourbon fans seeking punch, complexity, and value in one bottle.
Origins & Craftsmanship
Originating from the storied brand dating back to 1882, Old Grand-Dad 114 is produced at the James B. Beam Distilling Co. facilities in Clermont, Kentucky. The line honours Basil Hayden Sr., whose portrait still graces the label. The “114” denotes its bottling at 114 proof (57% ABV). While the exact mash bill is undisclosed, the brand emphasises a high-rye grain bill rooted in the Hayden legacy. Though no age statement is given, reviewers suggest relatively young barrels enhance its lively intensity.
Tasting Profile
Nose: Immediate and fragrant—warm vanilla, fresh corn, cinnamon-red-hot spice, and bright orchard fruit (pear and apricot) drift above a steady oak base.
Palate: Rich and full-bodied with dark cherry, caramel-toffee, bold rye spice, nutmeg and a hint of tobacco leaf. A fast-moving wave of pepper and baking spice keeps you alert.
Finish: Long and slightly tannic, with lingering cinnamon, toasted oak, black pepper and a soft echo of dried cherries.
