Italy’s favorite grape, Sangiovese, thrives all over the country. One of the reasons is that it grows well in diverse climates, and a second is that it shows terroir. Winemaker Sabino Russo works in the Southern Italian region of Puglia, which has warm days and nights cooled by winds off the Mediterranean. With vines winding among the cherry trees the 2016 vintage shows restrained fruit and an elegant, delicate palate with very subtle notes of oak. We have loved it with classic Italian dishes like veal chops, meatballs, and cured meats with hard cheese.
