The American Southwest has a distinct flavor profile, and Lost Lantern has bottled it. Sourced from the Hamilton Distillers in Tucson, this single cask release—affectionately dubbed "Desert Dessert"—is a collision of rugged terroir and French elegance. The spirit begins as Whiskey Del Bac’s signature mesquite-smoked malt, a liquid that usually screams of campfire and barbecue, but Lost Lantern demanded a twist.
They finished this smoky beast in a Sauternes cask, the legendary sweet wine of Bordeaux. The result is disorienting in the best possible way. The intense, savory smoke of the velvet mesquite wood crashes into the honeyed, apricot richness of the wine cask, creating a profile that tastes like a fruit crumble cooked over an open fire.
Bottled at a cask strength of 113.8 proof, the heat matches the Arizona origin. This is not a subtle whisky; it is a bold, oily, and audacious experiment that proves American Single Malt is rewriting the global rulebook. With only a handful of bottles produced, this is a rare snapshot of desert alchemy.
