This Loca Loka duo puts two 750ml bottles of 100% agave tequila on your shelf. The agave grows in Los Altos, the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. Loca Loka likes to mix Mexican craft with the bold energy of India. Its founders are actor Rana Daggubati, composer Anirudh Ravichander and entrepreneur Harsha Vadlamudi.
The team hand-picks mature agaves, most at least six years old. The hearts are slow-cooked in brick ovens and autoclaves. After a natural fermentation, the juice is distilled twice. Nothing is added afterward, so the tequila is additive-free. It is produced at Hacienda El Mexicano in Arandas, under NOM 1588.
Loca Loka makes two core styles, a Blanco and a Reposado. The Blanco is crisp and bright, with cooked agave on the nose. In the mouth it turns fruity, then shows the earthy, floral side of highland agave. Soft floral notes stay at the end. The Reposado rests four to six months in French and American oak, which gives it a richer smell and a rounder taste.
The brand did well on its first trip to the big contests. At the 2025 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, the Blanco won Gold and the Reposado won Silver. That year the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America Tasting Competition gave the Reposado a Silver and the Blanco a Bronze.
Sip either bottle neat or on the rocks so the agave can shine. Both also make a lively Margarita or Paloma. Serve them with tacos, grilled meats or seafood. A pair like this is a fun way to compare tequila styles with friends.
