The GB5 S is the machine La Marzocco puts on the counter when the counter is the point. Gracious lines, harmonious curves and a low profile at the cup rail make it the most design-led machine in the commercial line — but underneath the styling it runs the same dual-boiler, saturated-group architecture that has kept La Marzocco in specialty bars for three decades.
Engineering worth paying for
- Saturated groups in stainless-steel precision castings: the group is in permanent thermal equilibrium with the coffee boiler, so brew temperature does not drift shot to shot. The castings are machined rather than moulded, which is where the GB5's long service life comes from.
- Dual insulated boilers: a 3.4 L coffee boiler heated by a single 1400 W element, plus a 7 L steam boiler, running independently. Insulation on both cuts standby draw and holds temperature between orders.
- Piero group caps (AV and ABR): a re-engineered internal water path and repositioned flow meter that improves dose accuracy and makes the group easier to service.
- Dual PID: independent PID control on the coffee and steam boilers, adjusted from the digital display.
- Dimmable barista lights (AV and ABR): group lighting you can set to the room rather than fight against it.
- Hot water economizer and easy-rebuild steam valve: tea water at the right temperature without dumping steam pressure, and a steam valve your technician can rebuild in minutes instead of replacing.
- Eco mode, 24 V electronics, USB firmware and Pro App connectivity: scheduled standby, safer low-voltage control circuits, and remote monitoring and diagnostics.
Choosing your configuration
- EE (Semi-Automatic): the barista starts and stops each shot. Fewest electronics, lowest entry price, ideal if you dial in by weight on external scales.
- AV (Auto-Volumetric): programmable volumetric doses per group with Piero group caps and flow-meter control.
- ABR (Auto Brew Ratio): precision scales built into the drip tray with La Marzocco's Drip Prediction technology, which compensates for the coffee still dripping after the pump stops. Programme a ratio and the machine hits it by mass.
