1. Introduction
This red wine comes from Italy, specifically the Tuscany region, in the appellation of Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. Fattoria La Magia is a prestigious winery located in the heart of the Montalcino region. The estate is distinguished by its magnificent cherry tree, which identifies its cru, 'Ciliegio'. La Magia focuses on producing wines that balance power and structure with superb elegance.
2. Wine Description
This is a full-bodied, structured, and elegant red wine. The colour is ruby red with a tendency towards garnet red. The aroma features red berries, slight minerality, and fine spice notes. Specific notes include hints of mint, cedar, camphor, and dried black cherries. Other descriptors include floral notes, sour cherry (amarena), ripe cherry, citrus zest, and a pleasant spicy-toasted nuance.
The varietal composition is 100% Sangiovese Grosso. On the palate, it is full-bodied, concentrated, and silken. The flavour profile includes vividly ripe red and blue fruits, Morello cherry, raspberry jam, vanilla, and star anise. The body is elegant, refined, and structured, with a soft creaminess. Stylistically, it has a generous acidity and elegant, restrained, and finely chiselled tannins that provide a muscular grip. The finish is dramatic, long, and lingering, leaving a lasting impression of fruit, spice, and a hint of minerality. The wine is aged for three years, mainly in 500-litre French oak tonneaux (large barrels), followed by six months of refinement in the bottle. The alcohol by volume (ABV) is typically 14.5% or 15%. This wine is noted for its concentration and elegance that only the Sangiovese grape can deliver in its ideal environment. The optimal drinking window is noted as starting around 2025–2026 and extending to 2032–2036 or even 2048. Information on the wine being organic is not available.
