This distinctive wine hails from Greece, specifically the Attiki region surrounding Athens. Produced by Kourtaki, a historic winery founded in 1895 by Vassilis Kourtakis, it is among Greece’s most recognized names. Today, the family-owned estate continues its legacy of crafting traditional wines that honour Greek heritage, with a particular passion for showcasing the unique style of Retsina.
Wine Description
Kourtaki Retsina of Attiki presents a clear, pale lemon colour in the glass. On the nose, it offers vibrant aromas of pine resin mingled with citrus peel, fresh herbs, and hints of white flowers. The palate is dry and medium bodied, delivering lively notes of lemon zest, green apple, and a gentle pine character that carries through to the finish. Crisp acidity lends balance and freshness, making each sip both invigorating and true to the ancient Greek tradition. This wine is made predominantly from the Savatiano grape, well known for its resilience in the warm Mediterranean climate. Best enjoyed young, within one to two years of bottling, to appreciate its zesty vitality.
Food Pairing
Pair this classic Retsina with Greek mezze such as grilled halloumi, olives, and dolmades, or with seafood dishes like calamari and lightly fried white fish. The pine accented freshness of the wine lifts herbal and citrus notes in Mediterranean cuisine, creating an unforgettable dining experience.
