Kilchoman 'Sauternes Cask Matured' Single Malt Scotch Whisky is crafted on the windswept Isle of Islay, where the distillery, established in 2005, has revived the island's tradition of small-batch Scotch. Its coastal location near Machir Bay lends the whisky a distinctive, subtle saltiness that speaks to the sea-sprayed landscape, and Kilchoman is renowned for its dedication to handcrafted, peated malts in the style of a classic “farm distillery.”
Aged in first and second-fill Sauternes casks, this limited-edition Scotch has matured for at least five years under the watchful eye of Kilchoman’s founder, Anthony Wills. The aging process introduces a rich, creamy nose of ripe fruits and slight salinity, balanced by buttery and floral notes. As the flavors unfold, the palate experiences layers of butter caramel, tropical fruits, and a delicate interplay of floral accents with a distinct thread of peat smoke that remains steady throughout.
The finish is marked by a harmonious blend of sweetness and smoke, creating a lasting, smooth mouthfeel that echoes the complex profile of Kilchoman’s peated style. Best savored neat or with a few drops of water to open up the flavors, the 'Sauternes Cask Matured' is a remarkable expression of Kilchoman’s commitment to quality and the unique terroir of Islay.
