Introduction
This wine comes from France, specifically the Rhône Valley region, within the Crozes-Hermitage AOC appellation of the Northern Rhône. Paul Jaboulet Aîné is a historic winery, founded in 1834, and has built a reputation for producing exceptional wines from the diverse terroirs of the region. Since the Frey family acquired the estate in 2006, they have embraced organic and biodynamic farming practices, with all Jaboulet vineyards being certified organic as of 2016. The 'Les Jalets' cuvée is sourced from terraced vineyards in Les Chassis, named after the large, rounded stones, or 'galets,' deposited by ancient glaciers. Winemaker Caroline Frey's philosophy centers on minimal intervention to allow the natural expression of the terroir to shine.
Wine Description
This red wine (Rouge) typically displays a deep garnet red colour. The aroma offers notes of black fruits and spices, with a bouquet layering raspberry, wild strawberry, blackberry, and ripe cherry, along with hints of violet, pepper, and licorice. On the palate, it is described as juicy, supple, and round, with a medium body and savoury notes of black olive and leather as well as ripe raspberries. The wine features silky and refined tannins that are fine-grained, providing structure without excessive weight. It is noted for its excellent balance and refreshing freshness. The finish is long, persistent, and smooth, sometimes showing subtle roasted notes.
